Stronger emphasis on national/cultural differentiation. The state/none state system works but I feel like it would be better and less jarring if the autonomy floor was more subtle and determined my larger factors that could be manipulated. The imperator mana system tied to province development/national centralization would be very interesting. Development is a very good example of this because, by far the most popular use of development is not to increase the productivity of the province but to spawn institutions in non western countries so that you can progress in the research tree faster. The second problem is the heavy emphasis on map painting as the primary use of monarch power and the importance of the two research trees meant that diplomatic and development actions that required monarch points were not actually options most of the time because you could not justify spending monarch points on those actions. You did have enough agency in EU4 that it wasn't oppressive, but still not optimal. With the exception of estate clicks, or exceptionally wealthy nations, monarch points are gained by random. First, is except for possibly republics, gaining monarch has mostly no agency.

However, Monarch power seems to be a bit of a false balance due to two things. Unlike many on this forum, I am not particularly opposed to the use of mana especially where it makes you choose between different area of emphasis. While their are methods for nation building and diplomacy in the current game, they usually involve damaging the nation heavily or simple button clicks.ĭeemphasis of monarch power as the primary limiter on all nation actions. More developed nation building and peace time actions, I would love to be able to develop the nation in ways that don't involve conquering new clay. So, I do not know how Paradox would do this). I would appreciate the game if one tag wasn't so heavily emphasized as a victory condition (this is as much a psychological issue as a game issue. In this time period some small countries became powerhouses without painting the map, which brings me to ĭeemphasis on map painting.

I would love it if at least something of this get implemented into the game.Ī balancing between tall and wide. Navigable big waters like the Great Lakes, Caspian Sea and Lake Victoria. Coastal line changes over time and seasonal lakes.ħ. Nagana kills Horses and other livestock in its predominant regions: Ħ. Little ice age should have way more drastic effects like Swedes invading Copenhagen by foot over the frozen sea.ĥ. Columbian exchange should change trade goods all over the world.Ĥ. Using Crusader Kings plague mechanics, especially for the Americas.ģ. Their importance on agriculture, fishing and seafaring can not be underestimated.Ģ. El Niño and La Niña circles, or –Southern_Oscillation EU4 over time took the right direction with southern winters and monsoon, but there is so much more.ġ. This goes from scapping the "map" for an actual globe (as the Eu4 timeframes main feature is proving the earth is circumnavigable!) to implementing better environments with ecosystems. I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but i think the most important change that i would like to see is a more alive and real world.īy that i do not mean graphics, but making the game iself more organic.
